Conversational Intro to Spanish Class

By the end of this course you will know how to read, count, present yourself, greet people, express age, ask simple questions, talk about yourself and about other students. Small Spanish texts will give you some cultural background on Spanish speaking countries and the Spanish language.
The student will also learn some grammar such as subject pronouns, conjugations of regular and some irregular verbs in the present, singular and plural forms of adjectives, question formation, negations, gender and number, expressing possession through possessive adjectives, use of likes and dislikes, express destination and indicate location. These grammar skills along with new vocabulary will allow the student to construct his/her own sentences boosting his/her speaking confidence and ability.
This combination of grammar, pronunciation, introducing vocabulary through short dialogues and useful expressions will give you basic and immediate speaking abilities.

Spanish Level 2 Class

The Spanish Level 2 class is for students who have previously taken our Conversational Intro class or who have had recently the equivalent of 25-30 hours of Spanish instruction taken in a larger group setting. Students who have taken more than 30 hours in the past, yet are uncertain if this is the right class for them, can call us for an assessment of their Spanish language abilities.
This Spanish class will start with a basic review of conjugations of regular and some irregular verbs in the present.
In this lower intermediate class emphasis is placed on improving your basic speaking abilities and developing fluency. You will learn more and more irregular verbs and use them correctly in lower intermediate conversations. You will learn how to describe yourself and others, express daily routines, talk about who and what you know, express habitual and future actions, indicating the location of a person or a thing and talk about the past. Small texts about places of geographical interest, social issues, fashion are used to further your understanding of Spanish speaking people and cultures.
Grammar taught covers some irregular verbs, descriptive adjectives, the position of adjectives, the present indicative and present progressive, the personal a, reflexive verbs, stem changing verbs, differences between para, por, saber, conocer, demonstrative adjectives, pronouns and the preterit tense.

Spanish Level 3 Class

The Spanish Level 3 class is for students who have previously taken our Level 2 class or who have the equivalent of 50-60 hours of Spanish instruction taken in a larger group setting.
Students who have taken more than 60 hours in the past, yet are uncertain if this is the right class for them, can call us for an assessment of their Spanish language abilities.
This Spanish class will start with a short review of the contents covered in the Level 2 class.
In this lower intermediate class you will consolidate your Spanish language skills. You will learn how to speak Spanish learning more complex sentence structures by using not only the indicative but also the subjunctive. Reading of small articles and texts covering geographical topics, social issues, history and customs of Spanish speaking countries is used to build additional vocabulary, enhance speaking abilities and further enlarge your knowledge of different people and cultures in the Hispanic world. Grammar taught covers prepositions, prepositional, direct and indirect object pronouns, affirmative and negative words, irregular verbs in the preterit and the uses of the subjunctive.

Spanish Level 4 Class

The Spanish Level 4 class is for students who have previously taken our Level 3 class or who have the equivalent of 75-90 hours of Spanish instruction taken in a larger group setting.
Students who have taken more than 90 hours in the past, yet are uncertain if this is the right class for them, can call us for an assessment of their Spanish language abilities.
This Spanish class will start with a short review of the contents covered in the Level 3 class.
In this intermediate class you will be able to express yourself with ease in many different situations. You will be able to speak about leisure time activities, cuisine, postal services, the internet, sports and medical problems in the present, past and future tenses using the indicative and the subjunctive. Reading of articles and texts covering Hispanic cuisine, art and different regional traditions will enhance your vocabulary and understanding of the Hispanic world. More and more discussions will be used to create real speaking situations in which you will be immersed.
Grammar taught covers the differences in use of the indicative and the subjunctive, adverbs, the passive, the combination of direct and indirect object pronouns, the imperfect and the use in sentences with the preterit.

Spanish Level 5 Class 

The Spanish Level 5 class is for students who have previously taken our Level 4 class or who have the equivalent of 100-120 hours of Spanish instruction taken in a larger group setting.
Students who have taken more than 120 hours in the past, yet are uncertain if this is the right class for them, can call us for an assessment of their Spanish language abilities.
This Spanish class will start with a short review of the contents covered in the Level 4 class.
In this higher intermediate class you will be able to advance your speaking skills by learning how to express past intensions and responsibilities, describe and compare things and persons using adjectives, make requests and discuss hypothetical imaginary situations in the present, past and future. You will improve your vocabulary through readings covering geographical features, art, architecture, music and proverbs. Grammar taught covers the combined use of the preterit and imperfect, the past participle used as an adjective, regular and irregular past participles, negations, comparisons of equality and inequality and the superlative.

Spanish Level 6 Class

The content of this higher level class will depend on the material covered in the previous classes. Students will be able to interact with each other improving their conversational skills and their vocabulary. Discussions will emphasize cultural aspects. Students will improve their writing and reading knowledge.

Book Rental Policy:
As a student you can rent the textbook for $10 for the duration of the course.
The book the student will receive is property of Seattle Languages International. The student will pay a deposit of $25 in order to keep it for the length of this entire class. If the book is returned to Seattle Languages International not later than 5 days after the last class session has terminated, Seattle Languages International will reimburse the student the deposit of $25.
If the book is not received by Seattle Languages International by that day or if the book is used beyond reasonable wear, the $25 will not be refunded. The deposit & rent is not included in the tuition. It may be paid at the first class by check or cash. Students may also purchase the text book from other book vendors.
