About Arabic
The language of Arabic is the largest Semitic language spoken in the world today. Arabic is closely related to other Semitic languages such as Hebrew and Aramaic, and is also very similar to Classical Arabic, which dates back thousands of years. While Arabic is considered to be a macrolanguage and contains 27 different sub-languages that relate to one another, many people throughout the Arabic world speak a form of Standard Arabic, which can generally be understood by native speakers of other Arabic dialects. Typically it is Standard Arabic that students learn as a second language. Unlike most European languages, which use the same alphabet and language symbols as English, Arabic uses an entirely different alphabet. In fact, the Arabic alphabet is more like a form of calligraphy, similar to the language symbols used in Asian languages. Unlike western languages, Arabic never writes vowels in their words – vowels are merely implied by the consonants of the words. In addition to having to master this new form of the written language, students of Arabic must also learn vocabulary, phonology and pronunciation, numerals, grammar, cases, conjugation, gender agreement, pronouns, adjectives, and other forms of the language. In order to master these elements, a tutor of Arabic can be a tremendous asset to someone who wishes to master the language of Arabic.
